Philippines Disaster Relief

March 4, 2015

Typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes, and floods are common occurrences in the Philippines. Most of these natural disasters produce devastating destruction. Most of you probably remember viewing news reports and documentaries about Typhoon Haiyan ripping through the middle of the Philippine Islands in November 2013. This storm was the largest ever recorded. It killed thousands and left millions of Filipinos homeless.

The needs of the Filipinos following the storm brought me and most of my 55 national Filipino staff together to formulate a plan for relief efforts. Meeting others' needs is a way of life for our staff. In this time of their country's desperation, they were given an open door to love on and serve their neighbors.

Due to the magnitude of this storm, our relief efforts are still ongoing on the Island of Leyte. Over the last year, our ministry has purchased metal roofing sheets, nails, chainsaws, and concrete to bring into devastated areas. Some of our staff are skilled carpenters, who are experienced in using chainsaws to produce lumber from downed trees. Most Filipino homes do not have electricity, running water, or plumbing. They are simple structures, but they are still homes - valued by the families who inhabit them. As God continues to give us resources, our staff stays committed to assisting with projects of rebuilding churches and homes.

In addition to our rebuilding efforts, our Filipino staff is eager to preach the Gospel to people who are desperately looking for answers. Natural disasters cultivate death and despair and the surviving Filipino people have cause to consider where they will spend eternity. We rejoice in God's graciousness that, in the years preceding Haiyan, He used our staff and our mission trip teams to preach the Gospel in most of the schools that were in the path of this destructive Typhoon. Our primary ministry goal has not changed: we remain committed to preach the Gospel in every village of the Philippines.

Words cannot express how thankful we are for your prayers and financial support to BTEA. Because of you, our staff has the incredible opportunity to make an eternal impact as they minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the devastated Filipino people during times of crisis.

"I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now." Philippians 1:3-5

We are so grateful to all who faithfully support our ministry and for those who have recently partnered with us in our disaster relief efforts, following Typhoon Haiyan. Bob Tebow will be returning from the Philippines shortly. He and his 54 Filipino staff have identified areas in Samar, northern Bohol, northern Cebu, Bantanas, and parts of Panay, which are not receiving much attention, but are in desperate need of help. The big picture can seem overwhelming because we cannot help everyone; however, we will be faithful to help those that God puts in the path of our staff with the resources He has given us. Please pray for our staff as they minister in these areas.

Due to the recent devastation resulting from Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, our ministry is formulating a plan to deliver relief to the Filipino people, accompanied with a message of the hope that can be found in Christ alone. Bob Tebow just landed in the Philippines and will be meeting with his staff to identify how our ministry can make the greatest impact. We are so grateful for God's protection over our 54 staff and orphanage; however, we do know that the homes of two of our Filipino evangelists were completely destroyed, along with many of the churches that they helped to plant. If the Lord impresses you to give, please send a check made payable to "BTEA" and designated for "Disaster Relief" to the following address:

Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association

Thank you for enabling us to live out James 1:22, which says, "Be doers of the Word, and not merely hearers..." We are grateful for your genuine concern and desire to help the great need in the Philippines.
